Service employees union sued by ex-president over severance

San Diego Courts: The former president of San Diego County’s largest union has sued her past employer in San Diego Superior Court for breach of contract.

Sharon-Frances Moore alleges that the Service Employees International Union Local 221, which represents about 10,000 county employees and other public sector workers, agreed in January to pay her a severance of $107,850 when she resigned. Her lawsuit claims that the money was supposed to be paid out quarterly, beginning in March, with the understanding that Moore would not take any legal action against the union.

221 Loses Fair Share Fee Provision For Crafts Bargaining Group

Major LossThe Craft (CR) Bargaining Group sent in their ballots for the election ordered by PERB, and with 84.2% voting YES, the Fair Share Fee Provision was rescinded.

Word is that other bargaining groups are considering following CR's lead.

SEIU Member's Union Trial Attracts Media Attention

SEIU Local 221 held trial after Executive Board member Kathy Griffee filed charges against a fellow union member. Because limits were placed on the number of witnesses allowed to participate and on the number of observers, several witnesses and dozens of supporters for the defendant were kept out of the union offices.
